Lora Mathis is a visual artist, writer, musician and poet from Southern California. Their work examines the ways we internalize the social myths of oppressive systems; they treat art and writing as sites for unlearning these systems and healing from them. They coined the term radical softness as a weapon and try to create work which speaks against mental health stigma and encourages getting in-touch with your emotions. Lora has published two collections of poetry, The Women Widowed to Themselves (2015) and Instinct to Ruin (2017). They have shown work, performed poetry and music, given lectures, and hosted workshops in London, Montreal, Chicago, New York and LA, among other cities.
In 2018, they're living in an intentional community in San Diego, focusing on illustration and journal-like writing in zine form, and playing in the band Giveaway.
